‘Inner Spaces’ is a collaboration between Iraqi-American trumpeter, santur player, vocalist, and composer Amir ElSaffar and electronics virtuoso Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch. The music explores the intersections of Maqam modes of the Middle East, jazz improvisation, and electronics, creating an immersive, richly textured soundscape that is beyond category.
Both musicians are experienced masters of their crafts and are innovators that have pushed the boundaries and limits of their respective media. ElSaffar has earned an international reputation for his work that seamlessly combines musical cultures. He has released seven critically acclaimed albums under his own name, mainly with his Two Rivers sextet and 17-piece Rivers of Sound orchestra. This is his first record to feature electronic sound.
