FloFilz | Hagaki 葉書

FloFilz’s new album Hagaki—out September 12th on Melting Pot Music—is a musical postcard from Japan. Blending jazz, beats, and Japanese cultural influences, it was recorded in both Berlin and Tokyo and features guests like Takuya Kuroda, Nao Yoshioka, Budamunk, Toshiki Soejima, and Matt Wilde. The album’s rich visual identity comes from renowned music and travel photographer Robert Winter.

A classically trained violinist and one of Germany’s most sought-after beatmakers, FloFilz has crafted a unique sound shaped by jazz, soul, and hip-hop, with past collaborations including Alfa Mist, MF DOOM, and Kojey Radical. Since 2014, he and Winter have created album projects that celebrate cities through sound and imagery, with previous stops in Paris, Lisbon, and London.

For Hagaki—Japanese for “postcard”—FloFilz spent a month in Japan, drawing inspiration from its landscapes, food, people, and deep connection to nature. His time in Tokyo included performing at local venues, crate-digging in record stores, and connecting with artists like Uyama Hiroto and Matthew Halsall. Studio sessions with Kuroda, Yoshioka, and others add a rich collaborative layer to this vibrant, heartfelt tribute to Japan.
