Over the past year, Krakow-based quintet Omasta has been making waves across the Polish and European jazz scenes. Known for their electrifying live shows and deep-rooted groove, the band now presents their debut studio album, Jazz Report from the Hood—a gritty, rhythm-rich soundtrack inspired by city life and everyday struggle.
Their name, taken from a Krakow dialect word meaning “flavorful fat,” reflects the band’s sound: thick drums, heavy bass, and saturated textures. With nods to J Dilla, Madlib, and ’70s jazz-funk icons like Roy Ayers and Donald Byrd, Omasta bridges live instrumental hip-hop with Polish jazz heritage.
From London’s Ronnie Scott’s to Brussels’ AB, the group has toured widely—before even releasing a single. Their debut album, out October 17, 2025 via Astigmatic Records, isn’t a sermon—it’s a groove-soaked tribute to resilience, rhythm, and the neighborhoods that shape us. Available digitally, on CD, and vinyl. Pre-orders start September 5 via Bandcamp.
