Alabaster DePlume | Dear Children of Our Children, I Knew-Epilogue

‘Dear Children of Our Children, I Knew: Epilogue’ is a new EP by Alabaster DePlume, recorded during his March 2025 US tour. Performing with bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Tcheser Holmes, DePlume had been presenting material from A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole. The trio’s immediate onstage chemistry led to a spontaneous studio session on a day off in Brooklyn, resulting in a set of instrumental pieces shaped by improvisation and the shared intensity of the live shows.

DePlume describes the EP as a response to the atmosphere and conversations surrounding the tour. He sensed a feeling of voicelessness among audiences in relation to urgent ethical realities, and felt compelled to record in that moment. The EP stands as an artistic reflection of those encounters.

‘Dear Children’ functions as an epilogue to ‘A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole’ and as a counterpart to the October 2024 EP Cremisan: Prologue to A Blade.

As with much of DePlume’s recent work, the connection to Palestine is central. ‘Cremisan’ was recorded there, and ‘Dear Children’ incorporates field recordings from the West Bank, including children at play and everyday sounds. The cover features wheatpaste posters of a drawing by a 13-year-old boy from Gaza, accompanied by an Arabic dedication to the mother of Obaida Ahmed al-Qiram.
