Nomieye | Tapestry of an Echo

‘Tapestry of an Echo’ is the debut EP by Nomieye – the modular-synthesizer alias of London-based jazz-adjacent and improvising trombonist Rosie Turton.

An ode to the memory and history embodied in mountains and nature, and our relationship to the more-than-human-world: ‘Tapestry of an Echo’ explores our memory of nature and place in connection to the memories these spaces hold as custodians to the passage of time. Inspired by a trip to Anza Borrego – witnessing the other-worldly rock formations and walking through slot canyons, Nomieye honours the history places like this embody and explores our relationship to them as guests in their timelines. The artwork features a risograph print of a slot canyon photograph taken during this visit.

The EP sculpts layers of synth melodies which flicker in and out of focus, enveloping the listener. Nomieye’s cared-for textures flutter with a light gale force, equally oriented towards reaching and resting. Stirring melodic soundscapes from the trombone weave through the shimmering sonic palette of field recordings, bells, and unfurling synthesizers; moving the music between states of consciousness. All songs are performed by Nomieye, with the exception of ‘Sun in River’, featuring the captivating vocals of And Is Phi.

As Rosie Turton started putting the modular synthesizer to the forefront of her musical expression, Nomieye naturally emerged as a moniker to explore this more ambient focused music. Still holding improvisation as central to her music, Nomieye has already amassed a following through her newsletter-only improvisation series ‘Sonic Fabrics’ – featuring guests Maria Chiara Argirò, Peter Zummo, Hector Plimmer, and Lorenz Okello.
