The Three Seas | Antaḥkaraṇa

Bengali-Australian ensemble The Three Seas return with Antaḥkaraṇa, their most expansive and spiritually charged work to date. Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, the album brings together Baul mysticism, Himalayan folk, dub, rock and electronica into a deeply immersive, trance-like sound.

The title, Sanskrit for “inner instrument,” reflects a meeting point of memory, intuition and identity. That idea runs through the music itself: devotional poetry drifts through dub rhythms, Nepali folk melodies intertwine with baritone sax, and Bengali chants sit alongside modern textures. The result feels both ritualistic and contemporary, rooted yet constantly in motion.

Formed in Santiniketan in 2009, The Three Seas have spent over a decade refining their cross-cultural language. On Antaḥkaraṇa, that vision reaches a new level of clarity. The album took shape during an intense creative period in 2022, moving directly from a residency at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival into recording sessions in the UK. This sense of total immersion gives the record its pulse.

Produced by Sarathy Korwar and shaped in collaboration with long-time partners, the album balances scale and intimacy, capturing the resonance of Real World’s Big Room while maintaining an organic, human core. Antaḥkaraṇa is not fusion for its own sake, but a genuine convergence of traditions, continuing the band’s long-standing exploration of music as a bridge between worlds.

Releasing internationally via Earshift Music, the album stands as a culmination of 15 years of collaboration, translating spiritual and emotional depth into a rich, global sound language.
