GoGo Penguin, the instrumental trio from Manchester, is back with a new album, Necessary Fictions, set for release on June 20 via XXIM/Sony. This is their first studio album since 2023’s Everything Is Going to Be OK. The band also released a first single, “Fallowfield Loops,” with an accompanying video.
The album explores introspection and identity. Bassist Nick Blacka describes it as a reflection on what feels authentic right now. Pianist Chris Illingworth says the process was full of joy: “I was smiling a lot in the studio, and I’m smiling now just thinking about it.”
The album features 12 tracks, including “Background Hiss Reminds Me of Rain” and “State of Flux” (with Manchester Collective). The band will support the release with an international tour across Europe and North America.
