With Shinrin Yoku, acclaimed trumpeter and composer Yazz Ahmed invites listeners into a meditative world inspired by the Japanese practice of “forest bathing” — the act of immersing oneself in nature to restore balance and well-being. Blending her distinctive fusion of contemporary jazz, Arabic influences, and atmospheric sound design, Ahmed crafts a record that feels both grounding and transportive.
Throughout the album, her expressive trumpet and flugelhorn weave through lush arrangements, hypnotic rhythms, and spacious textures. The music unfolds organically, capturing the stillness, mystery, and quiet vitality of the natural world while maintaining the adventurous spirit that has defined Ahmed’s work.
At once reflective and expansive, Shinrin Yoku is a deeply immersive listening experience — a record that encourages slowing down, breathing deeply, and reconnecting with the world around us through sound.
