Erykah Badu & The Alchemist | Before The World Blows

After sixteen years without a conventional studio album, Erykah Badu returns alongside The Alchemist for a collaboration that feels less like a comeback than two singular musical worlds quietly colliding. Recorded over 18 months between Dallas and Los Angeles, the project moves through soul, jazz, blues, funk and underground hip-hop without settling comfortably into any of them.

The Alchemist’s dusty samples and hypnotic, often sparse loops leave plenty of room for Badu’s unmistakable voice, spoken reflections and unconventional songwriting. Guests including Thundercat, Steve Lacy, Earl Sweatshirt, Westside Gunn and Kamasi Washington appear without disrupting the record’s intimate character.

Loose, psychedelic and deeply personal, it sounds simultaneously connected to Badu’s past and entirely at home within today’s adventurous soul and hip-hop landscape.
