Omasta | Hits Different

With Hits Different, Austrian quartet Omasta continue to explore the fertile ground between contemporary jazz and instrumental hip-hop. Deep grooves, warm keys, bass, and tightly locked drums give the music the immediacy of a beat tape while retaining the spontaneity and interaction of a live jazz ensemble.

There is an easy confidence to the record: rhythms swing without feeling nostalgic, melodies remain understated, and improvisation is woven naturally into the arrangements. Influences from beat culture, neo-soul, and jazz fusion surface throughout without dominating Omasta’s own identity.

Hits Different feels relaxed but precise—a groove-heavy, organic record that connects the language of modern jazz with the dusty, sample-minded aesthetics of instrumental hip-hop.
