El Michels Affair returns with 24 Hr Sports—a vibrant, genre-defying release arriving on September 5, 2025 via Big Crown Records. This dynamic studio album captures the cinematic soul of Leon Michels, blending nostalgic inspirations with modern flair.
Drawing on the bold visuals of 1980s–’90s Sports Illustrated, MF DOOM’s Special Herbs instrumental series, and uplifting gospel tones à la Pastor T.L. Barrett, 24 Hr Sports is a spirited tribute to sound as style and emotion.
Departing from purely instrumental roots, the album features an impressive lineup of vocalists: Clairo, Norah Jones, Florence Adooni, Shintaro Sakamoto, Rogê, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and trumpeter Dave Guy. Each guest brings their own character—from the groove-rich, personal confidence of Rogê on “Mágica,” to Clairo’s wistful longing in “Anticipate,” Norah Jones’ signature warmth in “Carry Me Away,” and gospel-fueled interaction with a choir and Kirk’s sax in “Take My Hand”.
Opening with the commanding “Drumline,” the album weaves through groovy walkouts, orchestral themes, and cinematic sonic tapestries that feel both nostalgic and new. This marks a highly anticipated return for El Michels Affair—one that reaffirms Leon Michels’ mastery of soulful, cinematic production and elevates it into fresh, unexpected territory.
Perfect for fans of richly textured soul, instrumental craftsmanship, and bold collaborations—24 Hr Sports feels poised to be one of 2025’s standout records.
