With The Modern Defense, Lexington saxophonist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Jacob O’Donnell continues the exploratory language introduced on his debut The London System. His music occupies a fluid space between ambient jazz, electronic experimentation, improvisation, and the more psychedelic edges of contemporary composition.

Saxophone becomes both acoustic instrument and raw material, transformed through effects, looping, and studio manipulation into shifting layers of melody and texture. Rather than separating improvisation from production, O’Donnell treats both as parts of the same process, allowing repetition, chance, and subtle imperfections to shape the music.
